Colour Theory 1

Examine various colour theories, relationships, and phenomena within the context of two- and three-dimensional design. Effects of light, colour mixing, colour application, and colour dynamics are addressed. There are in-class and home assignments.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, successful students will be able to:

  • Devise a working knowledge of color  
  • Define terms for color nomenclature  
  • Practice color mixing by way of primary sets
  • Investigate the basic workings of the human eye/brain system in regard to color perception   
  • Review the basics of physics of light and color
  • Identify color environments, both human-created, and in the natural world
  • Analyze the relationship of color forecasting to the commercial design market
  • Define the use of color models; use varieties of both color contrast and assimilation
  • Distinguish ways of developing a personal color set/voice
