Course Description

This 75-hour condensed course covers topics from Math 10C and Math 20-1 or Math 20-2. It prepares students for progressing to either Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 and provides learning strategies needed to be successful in mathematics courses.

The following topics will be covered for all students: 

  • Prime Factoring
  • Factoring Binomials and Trinomials  
  • Exponent Laws and Roots  
  • Radicals  
  • Linear Equations and Functions  
  • Quadratics Equations and Functions
  • Trigonometry  
  • Logarithmic Functions 

Partway through the course, students will choose to proceed in one of two streams for the rest of the course: 

  1. Math 20-2 (preparation of Math 30-2)
    • Topics include: Logical and Statistical Reasoning, Geometry, Statistics, and Proportional Reasoning
  2. Math 20-1 (preparation for Math 30-1)
    • Topics include: Rational Expressions and Equations, Absolute Value, Inequalities and Systems of Equations, Sequences and Series

Course Details

Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate algebraic reasoning and number sense through the study of exponents, fractions, integers, radicals, polynomial expressions, sequences, and series
  • Simplify algebraic and graphical expressions
  • Apply trigonometric reasoning to right-angled and rotational trigonometry
  • Solve linear, quadratic, radical, trigonometric, and rational equations  
  • Develop spatial sense and proportional reasoning

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Math 9 or equivalent course.

This is an Online Hybrid course with Online Synchronous Sessions held online in real time (Mountain Time).

  • Zoom web conferencing software. To fully participate in the classes, students will need: an internet connection, and a reliable headset with microphone.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registering on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
