The Emerging Teachers Development Program introduces participants to a variety of topics related to developing their university teaching, with opportunities for discussion, practice, and reflection.

This badge is part of the Graduate Student Certificate in University Teaching and Learning program.

Effective September 1, 2020: If you are/were a University of Calgary graduate student and you have earned any four out of five badges, you will be eligible to apply for the Graduate Student Certificate.

Learning Outcomes

  • Engage in collaborative, critically reflective conversations with colleagues to explore current issues, theories and research in postsecondary education.
  • Identify and implement research-informed teaching methods that enhance student learning.

Required Courses

Minimum required: 1 capstone project course

Optional Courses

Minimum required: 5 courses

Registration Instructions

  1. Register, attend and participate in 6 of the designated courses including the capstone project course. Complete the requirements to earn credit for the courses.
  2. The Capstone Project course is the final requirement after you complete 5 courses in the Emerging Teachers Development Program.


Courses are delivered in three formats. Asynchronous, Synchronous, or Blended and indicated in the course description

New Requirement
To earn your badge for the current Emerging Teachers Development programs all courses and the capstone must be completed in Winter 2021.  Individual courses will not be transferable to the 2021 – 2022 academic year when a new cohort format will be implemented.
