Students in the Continuing Education Certificate in Visual Design program are mounting a peer-juried exhibition of work submitted by students registered in the program and students who have graduated from the program.

Entry Form (Word File)

  • The gallery is best suited for 2D work and there is limited display space for 3D work.
  • Image quality may influence selection.
  • Each entry should be represented by clearly focused, well lit images that accurately reflect the work submitted.
  • Artists may submit up to three (3) works.
  • Two (2) images of each work must accompany the completed entry form. Images of accepted works may be used for promotion.
    • Image one (1) must be of professional quality, in JPEG format not being any larger than 800 pixels that shows the complete work ready to hang. Include a title caption and artist's name with the image.
    • Image two (2) can be a well lit snapshot installation view of the work for the jury to determine the presentation (scale, framing) of the work. The image must include the same title caption and artist's name as in image one (1).
  • Please provide dimensions of artwork.
  • The entry form must be completed and emailed with required images to ctedart@ucalgary.ca.
  • Submissions must be emailed by July 15, 2009.

Selection

Selection will be made by the 2009 student selection team. Selection will be based on the two (2) images of each work emailed with the entry form. Selection will be based on the overall quality of the work.

Notification

Notification of acceptance will be emailed by July 31, 2009.

Requirements

The entry of class assignments is encouraged, please submit the course title, instructors name and the year the class was taken. Individual or collaborative entries are accepted. Collaborative works will be considered as a single entry. Artists submitting both collaborative and individual works must apply separately for individual works.

Delivery

The artist is responsible for all delivery and insurance costs to and from the exhibition location. Complete delivery and wrapping instructions will be included with notification of acceptance.

Receiving

Accepted work must arrive at the University Theatre Mezzanine Gallery, University of Calgary, between 10 am and 4 pm, Friday, August 28, 2009.

Return

All work will be ready to return to the artist or designated person between 10 am and 4 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. The artist or designated person must show a signed copy of their Notification of Acceptance form before being eligible to pick up works. The artist or designated person is responsible for bringing protective wrapping for the works when they are returned.

Conditions

Submissions to the Certificate in Visual Design Annual Exhibition, 2009 implies acceptance of the following conditions:

  • Accepted work must be completely ready for installation (such as wires on back of paintings for hanging). Please provide dimensions of artwork.
  • Instructor's submission not to exceed 12"x 12".
  • Accepted work must be available for the entire duration of the exhibition.
  • If accepted work is sold prior to the exhibition, the artist must make arrangements with the new owner to make the work available for the exhibition.
  • Work other than that represented in images may not be submitted.
  • Images submitted may be used to publicize the exhibition.
  • The exhibition team reserves the right to photograph accepted works for publicity, documentation and educational purposes.
  • The exhibition is open to the public Monday to Friday, from 1 – 4:30 pm, and to patrons during University Theatre evening events.
  • The artist will be required to sign a waiver against damage and loss.
