HUM 149 Métis Women in Transition

Course Description

Study the history of Métis women, beginning with an overview of the fur trade and the emergence of a new people and culture. Examine how the Métis adapted when the fur trade gave way in the late 1800s to a more sedentary agricultural and industrial economy, with a particular emphasis on Métis women as agents of transition. Some of the Métis women we will learn about settled in southern Alberta and will be of particular interest to Calgary residents.
