FIF 191 Chinese Calligraphy

Course Description

This is a traditional Chinese calligraphy course with an emphasis on the basics of Chinese brush work while encouraging an appreciation of Chinese history and culture. With its simple and elegant characters, Chinese calligraphy contains the origins of Chinese civilizations and the origins of its writing system. At the same time, calligraphy is a rythmic work of art. We will practise methods of the standard script (kai-shu) of the Tang dynasty and gain a general understanding of Chinese literacy.
