TRA 143 China Silk Road Adventure

Course Description

Join us on the journey along the famous Silk Road, an ancient international trade route where caravans traveled for 1500 years. We will begin our trip by visiting one of the historical capitals of China – Beijing – and discovering all its wonders: the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, and the main Olympic venues.

Then, we're off to China's remote and mysterious northwest corner: the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Our stops include Urumqi, Kashgar, Hotan, Aksu, Kuqa, Korla, Turpan, Dunhuang, and finally Xi'an, the end destination of the Silk Road travelers. We will discover some spectacular sights and scenery along the way, including museums and bazaars, mosques and pagodas, hot deserts, caves and beautiful lakes. We will stand in awe of the massive terra cotta soldier burial complex, enjoy traditional dance performances, hunt for jade, and perhaps go for a camel ride!

Our tour will end in the urban splendor of the world-class metropolis of Shanghai.  See the Bund, the Nanjing Street Pedestrian Mall, the Jade Buddha Temple, and the Yu Garden Shopping Mall.
