HUM 196 History of Europe, Part 1: From Ancient Greece to the Renaissance

Course Description

This course explores the history of Western civilization to 1500, with a focus on the political, military, social, economic, intellectual, and cultural life of European societies.  It covers Classical Antiquity and the rise of Greek and Roman empires, as well as the Middle Ages and the very early modern period.  The consequences in Europe of Barbarian, Muslim, Mongolian and Ottoman invasions will also be analyzed.  Multimedia lectures with unique paintings and drawings of the era.  No textbook required.
