FIF 189 Traditional Indian Culture: Dance of Shiva




Course Description

Discover the wonder of one of the world's most interesting countries. Explore the major periods of Indian civilization and the most significant values and concepts of Indian culture. Discuss the great Indian religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, as well as some fundamental concepts of Hindu philosophy. Indian literature, including the Vedic hymns, stories from Mahabharata and Ramayana, and Buddhist legends, will be introduced along with essential features of Indian architecture, sculpture, painting, music and drama. Finally, we will look at the structure of Indian society including the role of the caste system and some customs of traditional Indian society.
