Course Description

Discuss the basics of instructional design and how to effectively apply sound design principles to facilitate learning in face-to-face, online, group, and self-study contexts. Learn how to design learning activities that work, and learning assessments that will confirm that they worked. In this portfolio-based course, design a complete module of learning.

 

Course Details

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Identify and address the needs or gaps between the current condition of an organization, client or department and select an appropriate training solution that will help them accomplish their goals
  • Design a clear, innovative and coherent learning strategy that addresses and expands the learning context for your organization, client or department and meets at least three learning outcomes
  • Develop a learning experience with instruction that constructively aligns measurable learning objectives with assessments and engaging learning activities
  • Design a plan to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of training or instruction based on the achievement of the learning outcomes after delivery

Students should expect to spend 5-7 hours on course work each week.

This course is delivered in a condensed format over four weeks. Please plan on spending a minimum of 10 hours per week on course work outside the class time, including completing four assignments..

This course uses Desire2Learn (D2L), an online learning management system. The instructor will post the course outline and other materials in D2L. For more information about D2L, please visit our Online Learning Resources.

Please note there are optional live sessions included in this course. They will be recorded for those unable to attend. The details of live sessions will be communicated upon the course start.

To fully participate in the live sessions, students will need: an internet connection, a reliable headset with microphone, and a webcam.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registered on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
