PIW 108 Principles Of Investment Management

Course Description

To some, making sound investment decisions can seem like a daunting task. The objective of this course is to help novice investors make better and more informed investment decisions by introducing them to the basic principles of investing and portfolio management. By the end of this course, students will have a greater understanding of the economy, the various investment vehicles, the markets, and how to structure a portfolio properly. Topics include: an introduction to asset classes, including cash, fixed income, and equities; in-depth coverage of stocks, bonds and trust units; detailed analysis of mutual funds, including a review of the different types of funds, the fees associated, and how to choose them; discussion of the portfolio management process, with particular emphasis on asset allocation, diversification, and how to construct a portfolio, and a review of important economic indicators and their effect on the markets.
