TSL 101 Teaching Second Languages - Foundations

Course Description

Examine the principles and procedures for developing basic second language knowledge and skills in various contexts (ESL/EFL/IHL/FSL/FI). Specifically, examine theories of second language acquisition including what it means to learn a second language, what are the cognitive and social benefits and the effects on the first language. Learn the effects of age and second language learning and look at the unique challenges of teaching children, youth and adults. Expand your knowledge with concrete approaches for reaching the learner with various learning styles and strategies. Finally, discover the effects of instruction including verbal and written correction and feedback.
