FIF 111 Buddhism in Calgary - Introduction




Course Description

Explore the Buddhist community in Calgary and learn about Buddhism as a living religious tradition through field trips to Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese Buddhist temples, and the Glenbow Museum. This survey course will not only introduce you to the principle tenets taught by Sakyamuni Buddha, but it will also present a multi-faceted picture of Buddhism beyond the study of texts.  Discuss different kinds of Buddhism as well as meditation techniques, rituals, Zen Buddhism, and the Dalai Lama. There will also be guest visits by Buddhist monks.
