EDU 128 Working with the Emotionally Behaviourally Challenged Child




Course Description

This practical course deals with understanding and assessing behaviours present in today's classroom. Begin by learning to understand yourself. Then, learn communication tips and techniques that work effectively with children. Finally, learn how to apply various classroom management strategies.

Course Details

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • To understand fundamental psychological principles toward understanding and assessing behaviour.
  • To learn to understand yourself first (i.e., factors that shape who you are, identifying strengths and weaknesses toward greater empathy for others).
  • To learn and practice purposeful strategies toward effective communication with children.
  • To learn and practice positive classroom management strategies.
  • To learn basic standards of academic writing and learn to utilize the Word tools that assist in spelling and grammar.
  • To learn how to effectively utilize the Internet for research purposes (i.e., web credibility and simplified APA referencing of Internet content).

Notes

During registration in this course you will be asked to choose either Workplace or Practicum.  You will then be automatically placed in the appropriate section.  The $35 fee for the placement has been included in the course fee.

Prerequisites

For online courses, students must have taken Learning Online for Educational Assistants.
