EDU 112 Supporting Challenging Students




Course Description

Learn the causes of problem behaviours in order to affect your attitudes and interventions with disruptive students. Learn to incorporate successful inclusion, in the context of at-risk and resilient student situations. Explore strategies for challenging students, conflict cycles, power struggles, bullying, harassment and non-compliance.

Course Details

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  •  To understand successful inclusion of challenging students and what it means for practice in the classroom.
  •  To understand the underlying causes of problem behaviour in order to affect your attitudes and interventions with disruptive students.
  •  To comprehend the elements of one-to-one support.
  •  To learn to think about the context of at-risk/resilient student situations.
  •  To explore strategies regarding challenging students, conflict cycles, power struggles, bullying, harassment and non-compliance.
  •  To learn basic standards of academic writing and learn to utilize the Word tools that assist in spelling and grammar.
  •  To learn how to effectively utilize the Internet for research purposes.

Notes

During registration in this course you will be asked to choose either Workplace or Practicum.  You will then be automatically placed in the appropriate section.  The $35 fee for the placement has been included in the course fee.

Prerequisites

 For online courses, students must have taken Learning Online for Educational Assistants.
