EDU 127 Fundamentals of Effective Communication

Course Description

Learn to communicate effectively as an educational assistant and develop skills to improve communication in various work relationships. Focus on specific skills including speaking and listening, and verbal and non-verbal styles. End by sharing experiences and related concepts pertinent to the educational assistant's work.

Course Details


  • Understand effective communication in your workplace as a educational assistant;
  • Understand and develop skills to improve differing relationships within the workplace;
  • Identify your employability skills, with special emphasis on the skills of an educational assistant;
  • Understand and demonstrate principles of effective written and oral communications skills;
  • Explore and promote self-awareness of your personal communications skills through resumes, cover letters, networking, information interviewing, interview scenarios, remaining positive and handling rejection;
  • Develop strategies to cope with difficult behaviors in the workplace;
  • Connect with further information and resources;
  • Share experiences and related concepts pertinent to the educational assistants' work.



During registration in this course you will be asked to choose either Workplace or Practicum.  You will then be automatically placed in the appropriate section.  The $35 fee for the placement has been included in the course fee.


For online courses, students must have taken Learning Online for Educational Assistants.
