FIF 178 Diplomacy: An Exciting Board Game of International Intrigue

Course Description

Diplomacy—a popular board game created in 1954—relies on skill, cunning and strategic negotiations where political alliances dominate the tactical considerations. It is played on a map of Europe prior to the First World War, with each player or team leading a major power in 1901: England, France, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Russia or Turkey. Diplomacy tests your ability to outwit fellow players in a tense diplomatic power struggle. In addition to hands-on playing of the game, this course will provide you with an understanding and appreciation of the multiple and complex facets involved in the politics of war. Communication, planning, psychology and game theory will all be examined.
