Course Description

At the height of its empire, Rome ruled a vast territory that stretched from the British Isles to the Arabian Sea. Trace the development of Rome, from the formation of the republic to the collapse of the empire. Unravel the complexity of a civilization of efficient soldiers, ambitious politicians, brilliant writers and brutal lifestyles, and, discover the roots of many modern legal, military and social practices. Using a combination of Roman literary sources and archaeological remains, with some help from modern scholars, explore the history of a culture that is both familiar and foreign to us today.
