Course Description

BMC 282 Environmental Management Systems and Standards

How organizations manage their environmental affairs is guided by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) series of international environmental management standards, which were completely revised in 2015. This course will describe how the ISO standards help organizations improve their due diligence and environmental citizenship. It will also provide a practical guide to designing and implementing an environmental management system in any organization.

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of systematic environmental management
  • Understand related ISO and other international standards 
  • Know how an environmental management system actually works in an organization
  • Know how to develop and implement an environmental management system
