HUM 124 The Sociology of Food




Course Description

Gain an understanding of  some of the current issues surrounding food and agriculture from both a health and social point of view. Learn the arguments for and against vegetarianism and other food-related movements, organic agriculture and some of the many issues arising from modern agricultural practices, such as the movement toward 'slow' foods, raw foods and local foods. Examine major changes in agriculture and food production to see how these changes impact people in different social locations. You will explore these topics through lecture, readings, videos, and other materials presented during the course.
