FIF 164 History of Intelligence: The Era of the Amateur

Course Description

Intelligence, an integral part of society from the very first civilizations, has been dominated for much of its history by the amateur. We will explore some of that rich history, visiting Tudor and Stuart England, Napoleonic Europe and the Anglo-Russian Great Game on the N.W. frontier of India. We will end our journey with World War I which marked the end of the era of the amateur and the rise of the professional.
