FIF 160 Intermediate Buddhism




Course Description

Enhance your understanding of the history and philosophy of the Buddhist tradition through the study of original Buddhist sutras, films, lectures and guest visits by Buddhist monks and professors. We will also make field trips to the Glenbow Museum and three local temples which include a Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese Buddhist temple. Selected topics for discussion in the following areas: early Buddhism, Buddhism in China, and Zen Buddhism. The course will be structured on lecture and in-class discussion, and students are encouraged to share their own experiences and opinions, though class participation is not mandatory. This is a follow-up to Introduction to Buddhism and is designed for students with basic knowledge of Buddhism.
