HUM 120 Ancient Philosophy: From Thales to Plotinus

Course Description

This introductory course is designed to familiarize students with the initial period of Western philosophy and some of the great ideas from that time that continue to influence the way we think today. Greek and Roman philosophers include: Thales, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Socrates, Epicurus, Plato and Aristotle. We also examine schools such as the Pythagoreans, Atomists, Sophists, Cynics, Stoics and Skeptics. In addition to biographies and trends, discuss: original concepts and approaches to reality, knowledge and moral values.
