HUM 543 - Mysteries of the Ancient Maya
Course Description
The ancient Maya are one of the most famous Pre-Columbian civilizations to have emerged from the remote jungles of Central America. This course will remove the distance between the jungle and the classroom and bring you closer to these fascinating ancient peoples. Through a detailed examination of their art and architecture, hieroglyphic writing and calendar systems, and tales of war and romance between royal families, the mysteries left behind by the Maya will be uncovered. Learn about the Maya from an archaeologist who excavates an ancient Maya city in the tropical rain forests of Belize. In addition to classroom-based learning, you will have the opportunity for hands-on study of authentic archaeological artefacts from Central America, bringing the past to life!
