Course Description

A war, even a Cold War, needs warriors, and America's were among the most colourful figures in history.  You will explore some of the most famous, and infamous, American Cold Warriors and their impact on the Cold War.  John F. Kennedy is a beloved figure in American popular culture, yet most historians rate him an average-at-best President. Why?  Richard Nixon was nearly assassinated over a decade before he became President, in an event that almost led to an American invasion of Venezuela. What happened?  Did you know that despite spearheading some very progressive initiatives Lyndon Johnson was known to sexually harrass staff and reporters?  Other topics include; the intricacies of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Nitze vs. Kennan, the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower.
