CPE 211 Challenges in Affordable Housing

Course Description

Housing that is affordable to households with a diversity of incomes is a key component in any market and essential in developing sustainable communities within a healthy city. Approximately 18 percent of Calgary households find themselves in need of assistance in putting a safe and adequate roof over their heads. This course examines the challenges of developing such housing in both the private and non-profit sectors. Curriculum focuses on the financial realities of development, and the many social considerations. The course will include engaging senior experts from the industry and in-class discussions and exercises. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the issues associated with developing housing that is affordable to a diverse range of incomes and market segments.
