BUS 280 Five Practices for Better Leadership

Course Description

In this one-day seminar you will be introduced to a practical and widely-used leadership model, created by Kouzes and Posner, that addresses all the key elements of effective leadership. It is predicated on the philosophy of inviting and supporting leadership in any individual at any level, in any position within the organization. The key belief is that leadership comes from the person, and not the position. Examine five key leadership practices, with the opportunity to discuss and explore the application of these practices within the practical, day-to-day context of your organization.

  • Nature of leadership, and the similarities and differences between leadership and management
  • Five key leadership practices of Kouzes and Posner:
    • Model the Way
    • Inspire a Shared Vision
    • Challenge the Process
    • Enable Others to Act
    • Encourage the Heart
  • Practical applications of the five key practices
  • How to act with integrity as a leader, in ways which respect  and promote both personal and organizational values
