FIF 144 History of Middle Eastern Countries

Course Description

This is a survey course on the history of the modern Middle East, the emergence of modern Middle Eastern states and societies, and their incorporation into the capitalist world economy and global power order. Discuss issues such as colonization, growth of mass politics, nationalism and nation-state building, citizenship, gender issues and critical turning points, for internal as well as foreign policies in selected Middle Eastern societies, from late nineteenth century to present day.
