CPE 210 Small Animal Emergency Procedures

Course Description

This course is designed for fully experienced veterinarians who wish to enhance their techniques in emergency medicine and critical care. This two day course will include both presentations and practical, hands-on laboratories. (Note: this course is only open to licensed veterinarians). The focus will be on emergency and critical care techniques, including emergency venous cut downs, hand and automated (EZIO) intra-osseous catheter placement for fluid resuscitation, tracheostomy tubes, esophagostomy tubes, naso-esophageal lines, chest tubes (traditional and MILA), AFAST/TFAST scans, and central lines. These procedures (with the aid of instructional videos which the participants can keep a copy of) will be introduced in a classroom setting to discuss indications, advantages and disadvantages of the procedures. The procedures will then be practiced on cadavers in the laboratory setting.
