BMC 340 Introduction and Application of Helping Skills

Course Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and skills of helping individuals, couples, and families facing challenges in different life situations.

Learn basic characteristics, ethical requirements, and self-care of an effective helper. The course will help learners reflect on their motives for helping, understand and  familiarize with the basic concepts and skills in helping individuals, couples, and families who are encountering challenges and difficulties in life circumstances. Learners  are expected to be able to integrate what they have learned in class into actual helping  situations.  

Course Details

The course is part of the Community Services Program which has been created to build individual skills and knowledge, as well as community resources, to enhance the quality of life of communities in Calgary. The medium of instruction is Cantonese/English as most of the teaching materials are in English.  Learners are required to be able to read English academic materials.
