FIF 220 Reading Prose: Thomas Hardy




Course Description

Study the short stories and novels of one of the most important 19th-century writers in English. Thomas Hardy is most known for two or three of his later novels, but in this course, we will discuss some earlier works as well and consider some of his central stylistic practices and some of his philosophical concerns. Works studied include; Life's Little Ironies, Wessex Tales, Desperate Remedies, Two on a Tower, The Return of the Native, Far from the Madding Crowd, and Jude the Obscure.
