HUM 406 Religious Peace Between the Faiths and Science

Course Description

Is religion really necessary? Can religions in the modern world find common cause and compatibility with science? Religion has gotten a bad reputation by losing touch with people and inter-faith rivalries – to say nothing of clashes with science, secularism and atheism. Is there an enlightened way to bring about healing and reconciliation? The issues are complex but exciting possibilities exist. Using Robert Wright's helpful book 'The Evolution of God' we will discover that while contemporary religion may be in trouble, the great faiths of Jerusalem (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) can together creatively engage science while exhibiting an intelligent and relevant spirituality.
