FIF 219 Religion in the Public Sphere in Canada




Course Description

Study the historical and current implications of religions in the Canadian political landscape. We will begin with a brief synopsis of the Canadian government's treatment of religions since its conception, followed by various political initiatives introduced to deal with Canada's growing religious diversity over the years. Also, a consideration of political movements by religious communities and individuals will be discussed. This course will analyze the sometimes problematic, yet ever important role religion has played in Canada's public sphere.
