PIW 129 Diet, Supplements and Health

Course Description

Explore the practical aspects of science and chemistry as they relate to diet and health to gain a better understanding of your own health and the health-related information that is available through social media. Discuss health issues pertaining to diet. Topics include: macro and micronutrients including carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients (natural chemicals found in plant foods).  Also discuss: health issues surrounding cholesterol and heart disease, free radicals and cancer, antioxidants, food additives, dietary supplements, and the chemistry of cooking.
