Scott McLean joined the University of Calgary as director of Continuing Education in July 2005. Prior to this appointment, Scott served as the associate dean of extension at the University of Saskatchewan.
Now in his second term, Scott has led Continuing Education through a number of significant changes, including the adoption of a new registration system, the enhancement of financial and enrolment monitoring systems and the move of roughly half of the Continuing Education staff to the university's Downtown Campus.
Scott's professional practice has ranged from teaching adult basic education in Nunavut to developing innovative continuing education programs in the fields of agricultural leadership and health promotion. He has taught graduate courses in the practice and theory of adult education, research methods, and the planning and evaluation of educational programs.
Scott has international experience working with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Europe and Asia, and with the Commonwealth of Learning in Asia and the South Pacific. He has served organizations such as the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Under Scott's leadership, Continuing Education has assertively pursued its mission to provide high quality educational opportunities to lifelong learners, and has enabled thousands of people to find meaningful careers, learn new languages, build profitable businesses, and develop the knowledge and skills they need to interact with the world in an increasingly mature, aware, and responsible manner.
