"I went back to school to change my life," says Virginia Stewart. "I resigned from volunteering and phoned the university. I've never looked back."
Previously, Virginia had devoted her life to her family and volunteer work, working with organizations like The Calgary Foundation, Bethany Care Society, the Dementia Care Network and the CareWest Foundation. Then, in her 60s, after suffering the loss of a loved one to cancer, she found herself looking for a fresh start...something new, something that would occupy her mind and body, and revitalize her life.
Her solution was to enrol in classes at the University of Calgary, and she is now well on her way towards a Bachelor of Arts degree with an English Major and a French Minor. Studying alongside today's youth has given her the fresh start she wanted, and she continues to go to class focused on her goals.
As part of her minor, she is taking courses through Continuing Education's French as a Second Language program to help her "firm up some grammar skills."
"It's been great; the professor was very good and had a wonderful sense of humour," says Virginia. "The courses have been good, and have served their purpose, but I want to do more."| Back |
