Computer Desktop Applications Certificate (2010)
General Management Certificate* (2006)
Like most people, Tammy Wong has used Microsoft desktop applications for years—programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Project. But—also like most people—Tammy couldn't be sure she was using the software as efficiently as possible—until now.
"I had worked with some of these programs a long time," says Tammy, who works as an engineering coordinator in the Engineering Internship Program, at the University of Calgary. "But, I felt that taking these courses would give me a good benchmark of my skills."
By fulfilling the requirements for the Computer Desktop Applications Certificate, Tammy gained a better sense of her skill-level in each application, and overall, developed a new comfort level with Microsoft programs.
"It was amazing. I definitely learned new things, even in the basic levels," she says. "...stuff I never would have found on my own...and by taking classes in a package like this, I saw the similarities in the structure of the Microsoft programs, so when I'd start working in a new application, it felt familiar."
A love for learning is what motivates Tammy to take University of Calgary Continuing Education and degree-credit courses. A U of C alumnus with a degree in mechanical engineering, Tammy has chosen Continuing Education courses in art, business and computers, and has completed two certificates—the General Management Certificate in 2006, and most recently, the Computer Desktop Applications Certificate.
Tammy, who has a husband and two daughters in their twenties, says she can always make time for Cont Ed courses. It all started when she picked up her first program guide. "Once I registered in my first class, I was hooked."
