"When I retired from Engineering in 1989, I wanted to keep my mind sharp," says Roger Egglestone. "Fifty Plus was my opportunity."
As a young man, Roger had earned degrees in science and engineering, so, in retirement, he was looking for courses in the arts, humanities, religion, history, and more.
Continuing Education's Fifty Plus program offers courses in all of these topics, and caters to people who are 50 years of age and older. Courses are typically offered in the daytime at the U of C campus. The courses do not include homework or exams, although reading lists are often supplied for students looking for more.
"I love it," says Roger. "I enjoy the university atmosphere...the students...the buildings."
It's been 18 years since Roger's first course with Cont Ed, and 36 courses later, he continues to review every program guide looking for more. In addition to his Fifty Plus courses, Roger and his wife Donna, have travelled with Continuing Education's Travel Study Program.
