Health, Safety and Environment Certificate (2009)
"I definitely got what I was looking for from this program, and more, and I had lots of fun along the way," says Paige Deitsch, a graduate of the Health, Safety and Environment Certificate and a chemical technologist working at the U of C's Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department, Schulich School of Engineering.
"The instructors were very knowledgeable, and for me, the bonus was the depth of their industrial experience," she says. "It is very important for me to know what is going on in industry, because that's where the students I supervise will be going."
"I enrolled in the Environmental Health and Safety Certificate Program because I wished to be as up to date as possible with Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety rules, regulations and codes," says Paige, whose Continuing Education experience began with a few specific courses. It wasn't long before she and several others from her workplace saw the value of completing the full certificate program. They tackled the program together, working, encouraging and supporting each other along the way.
While pursuing her certificate, Paige juggled a busy life that included full-time work, a family, and two courses per semester. "Yes, it was tiring, and it was lots of work" she says. "However, it was also rewarding, beneficial and very useful."
