Gonzalo Arango

Environmental Management Certificate (2009)

"My goal was—and still is—to be a top environmental professional recognized in the local environmental community," says Gonzalo Arango, a 2009 graduate of the Environmental Management Certificate program.

Despite having extensive education and experience in the environmental field in South America, Gonzalo, who immigrated to Canada from Colombia in 2005, needed additional education to make a successful transition into the environmental field in Canada.

"I had to update my knowledge to learn how environmental work is done here," he explains. "I needed to learn Canadian procedures, terminology and regulations. I chose the university because I wanted to learn from the best environmental professionals, and I wanted to develop a professional network."

Today, Gonzalo is self-employed as an environmental consultant, offering services in the fields of construction, and oil and gas.

"I got everything I came for," he says of his Continuing Education experience. "The courses were good, and there were many excellent teachers... everything was excellent."

Gonzalo has plans to continue his studies with Continuing Education; in particular, the Professional Management Certificate with a specialization in Project Management.
