Certificate in Visual Design (2009)
"It's definitely enhanced my credibility with clients," says Darcy Blanchard, a recent graduate of the Visual Design Certificate with a specialization in Interior Design. "People seem to feel more confident in my skills when they first interview me and learn about my certificate from U of C."
Darcy and her partner, Glenda James, already had an established home staging company when they chose to enrol in the Certificate in Visual Design. The partners were in the process of expanding their business to take on larger design jobs, and felt additional education could be a huge asset—both for the learning and the credibility.
The partners tackled the program together, using the "buddy system" to get through the program at the same time that they were developing their business, and managing family responsibilities. It took them three years to complete the certificate, generally fitting in one course per session.
"The instructors were really knowledgeable and very interesting people—personable and fun. They made it a great learning experience," says Darcy. "And, I've made friendships through this as well.
