Christine Pimiskern wanted a certificate that would provide part-time career options as well as add to her volunteer skills. She needed a program that would fit into her life as a stay-at-home mom in Calgary, and provide learning that she could use in the future if she and her husband were to travel and volunteer internationally—as they plan to do.
The Teaching Second Languages Certificate required that Christine take all of her courses online-with the exception of her practicum. Not knowing what to expect at first, Christine was pleased to discover that online learning was ideal for her needs.
"I loved being online; I could drink tea and study in my pyjamas," she says. "My first priority is my family, so I loved the flexibility that online gave me. I was able to work when it was convenient for me."
The TESL certificate has met Christine's expectations completely. "I feel prepared, I feel confident, I feel ready to pursue my goals," she says.
Following graduation, Christine will travel to Hanoi, putting her new skills to good use in an orphanage setting. Once home again, Christine will continue volunteer work in an ESL setting and begin her search for part-time work.
