Certificate for Emerging Leaders (2008)
"Working in a managerial position, it just seemed natural to take seminars toward the Emerging Leaders Certificate," says Brenda Fick, a senior marketing manager with KPMG in Calgary, and a recent graduate of the popular certificate program offered through Continuing Education Business Seminars.
This isn't Brenda's first U of C graduation experience. In fact, she completed her first Continuing Education certificate—General Management—in 1988. It was a learning experience that gave her the confidence and motivation to return to school full time and pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree at the U of C. She convocated in 1995. "I loved the experience," she says. "It helped me find a career that really suits me."
Currently, Brenda has set her sights on a third U of C certificate—the Certificate in Workplace Communication, a program she will complete this year.
"By taking Continuing Education classes, I learn new things that I can take back to the office to share with my colleagues and use for my own professional development. The classes are always fun, so you are always learning and having an enjoyable experience at the same time.
"My courses have kept me thinking and current, and have helped keep me motivated to bring new ideas back to the office," she says. "Overall, Cont Ed courses have helped advance my career and make me a better employee."
